[edit]

Time to time various some global pockets in countries like Russia, countries in south Asia, and many Islamic countries mild to serious level of Antagonism against celebration of Valentine's day is observed on Socio-religio-cultural-political garb. For many of conservatives freedom of expression and choice specially of women remains to be serious concern.

Formatting correction in Notes

Note 1 has a full bibliographic citation written out in the text rather than using an inline. This is easily fixable in the Markup (I'd do it myself but I'm not auto-confirmed yet) Chrishillflute (talk) 11:53, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I wish to change the name of this holiday's wikipage to 'Saint Valentine's Day' because that is supposed to be the proper name of the holiday. 'Valentine's Day' should be the nickname. 173.238.231.208 (talk) 19:15, 16 February 2021 (UTC)Nisarg Mistry[reply]

I disagree. Valentine's Day is used so commonly that it has become more or less the "correct" name for the holiday. AidTheWiki (talk) 22:31, 4 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Non-Religious Saint Day?

[edit]

Saint Valentine's Day, is, as you may have guessed, a saint's day. All Saints' Days have been Christian holidays for a very long time. However, recently it has become more of a non-religious holiday, (a few examples of non-religious holidays are Halloween, Veterans' Day, and New Year's Day) and more like a day for people to express their love for one another. In my opinion, it is now debatable as to if it is actually a "Saint's Day.' Let me know your opinions, AidTheWiki (talk) 22:43, 4 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This whole article was copied from Valentine's Day without giving any attributions. Anywasy, i see no good reason to split from Valentine's Day (just to add "Muslim world" in the title?). This should be merge. আফতাবুজ্জামান (talk) 16:09, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No, because there many articles in Wikipedia with this or related topic. For example- Valentine's Day in Pakistan, Valentine's Day in Iran, Valentine's Day in India etc. Wiki N Islam (talk) 13:35, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Merge per nom. The only unique content from this article which was not copied from the main Valentine's Day article is the section on views and a copywriting of the lead. If content was entirely unique, there would be a better case for keeping the articles split, however, the amount of unique content on this page can very easily be merged into Valentine's Day or any other related articles. In the "Japan" section, there is a note about "ultra-obligatory" (chō-giri choko) chocolate, but there's no Japanese text as there is with the other terms. Please add the Japanese text 超義理チョコ inside the (chō-giri choko) brackets to make it say (超義理チョコ chō-giri choko) (超 being the kanji for chō, meaning ultra- or super- as per Jisho: https://jisho.org/search/%E8%B6%85) DenebDeNoob (talk) 20:43, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Text about Scandinavia is wrong

[edit]

In Denmark Valentines Day is a 100% commercial event. More than four out of ten Danes think that Valentine's Day is overrated and a thoroughly ridiculous tradition. "The Danes think it's American nonsense. It's a tradition that has no roots in the Danish people," according to https://livsstil.tv2.dk/sundhed/2011-02-11-vi-faar-roede-knopper-af-valentinsdag. 80.208.69.151 (talk) 09:24, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lutheran Valentines

[edit]

The lutheran chuch does not have a feast on Valentine's Day. Like other nordic countrys Finland also has a totally comercial Valentines day, it has nothing to do with the church. 2001:14BA:10C6:F000:4409:3DFC:3F40:CE5D (talk) 10:52, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The earliest possible origin story of Valentine's Day is the pagan holiday Lupercalia (and not the Christian holiday as this article incorrectly states). Occurring for centuries in the middle of February, the holiday celebrates fertility. Men would strip naked and sacrifice a goat and dog. 2601:1C2:1A00:2250:357A:3470:7780:671E (talk) 20:58, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

under "Restrictions on Valentine's Day in some countries" the following line should be deleted: "One of the reasons for Valentine's Day acceptance since the 2000s by the general population is the change in relations between the sexes, and because sexual relationships are no longer strictly limited to be within marriage."

After reading the article cited https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valentine%27s_Day#cite_note-197, the article cited conjectures extramarital sexual relations as a possible contributor for the rising popularity of Valentine's Day in Iran, but provides no evidence to support their argument. This line is taken out of context, and misquoted, and stated as fact rather than conjecture. Sonoch (talk) 19:26, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies, I coded the link improperly! Valentine's Day#cite note-197 is what I was going for. Sonoch (talk) 19:28, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
